OUR RESIDENTIAL HOUSES
At the heart of Asha Niketan is the relationship. It is also a place where we provide support for people with learning disabilities. One important aspect of Asha Niketan is living together in a home. Our houses are a safe place wherein each person feels loved and is able to make their particular journey of healing.
Our community is a place where 15 adults with learning disabilities called Core Members live in 3 houses: Probalayam (Home of Illumination) opened in 1977; Deepalayam (Home of Light) opened in 1984 and Anandalayam (Home of Happiness) opened in 1993 for female members. Together with 6 assistants (care givers) and 1 or 2 international volunteers they share life and daily activities like in family settings integrated into local neighbourhoods.
In the home, everyone, with and without disabilities share their life's daily routines and responsibilities according to his capacity.
